Should I up to a 30 gallon?

I bought my male BP at 30 inches and the guy at the reptile show suggested I use a 20 gallon. He's 32 inches now. Is it too soon for a 30? My sister needs a 20 for her new turtle so I was thinking I should just up and give her the 20

pics would help but I've heard it said that the perimeter of the bottom of the enclosure should be larger than the length of the snake

A male bp can happily be housed in a 20L his whole life. 30 would be a good size for an adult female.

I looked up liters to gallons, and if I'm right, 20 gallons is 75 liters. Wow, that's big for a BP! If the sides are high, you might consider getting something with lower sides. I house my females in 50 liters and my males in 30 liters. The floorspace is the same in each, but the sides are only 9" and 7". I've had larger cages in the past, and they seem to like smaller better. BTW, if you're in the market for a good cage, I recommend the product Really Useful Boxes. Hope that helps.

A lot of the time when you bump up from 20G to 30G, the only volume you're gaining is in height. This isn't really beneficial for terrestrial species such as BPs, look into 41qt tubs or something with similar dimensions. More floor space, less height as they gain weight

Go with tubs like Rubbermaid and Sterilite. Glass tanks really don't cut it for snakes and besides they are kind of expensive. Tubs are very cheap and they also hold temperature and humidity much better. Yes they are not as nice looking but for the well being of your snake it's the better choice. Target and Wal-Mart have a great variety of tubs.

You can but you don't need to. Some things to consider are that with a larger tank comes the issues of keeping the heat gradient ideal. A 30 gal would be fine, but you'd have to do some serious crowding as to make it seem tight fitting.
