Blood python. Super impressive, beastly, keeps you on your toes, but super stunning to look at. My favourite pattern on any snake apart from eastern diamondback rattlesnake. But I can't own one of those lol. Here's my 3000g girl.

Of any herp that I own, I'd say our beardie. People are always like, "that's a BIG lizard!" He's spikey. He snuggles. He's an enigma!
They also like to watch the tort. Not super handleable, but the back feet/legs of a sulcata walking is pretty much the cutest thing you'll ever see.

Don't know if that's the kind of "showing off" you are talking about...

I second the blood pythons. By big girl (who is not full grown yet) is the one that we bring out to show people. Our male is changing colors so glows. Our bloods are super chill and I feel that I can pass them off to anyone.


The kiddos holding her. She thought she could crawl up one to the other. It was cute because she does not do "trees" aka hanging on to people, at all.

I think it's *really* hard to beat a nice blood or short-tailed python. All three of these snakes are docile, friendly animals that are a joy to handle. While they can be secretive within their enclosures, the "wow" factor when we take them out for handling more than makes up for it!

Not the most active animal. But they are always out on display. If I could only keep 1 snake Gaboon would be the 1.

Sweet gabby!! They truly are impressive - one of my all-time favorite hots. That said, something tells me the OP was going for a little less of the "...but it can kill ya!" factor.

While my young(ish) BRB still hides a lot, as he ages I've noticed that he's out and about more during the evenings, and the adults I have now only hide when they're in shed.

My high white Cali king is gorgeous and he's out quite a bit as well, plus he's a great eater, easy to care for, and easy to handle.

One of my favorite display herps of all time - rough green snake. Their small size and slender build make it possible to create an elaborate, planted vivarium without fear of the landscape getting destroyed. Being diurnal and arboreal, it's easier to show them off as they are often out and about - though sometimes it takes a bit of searching in heavily planted setups(Waldo makes an appropriate name for these little suckers). Most fun of all, when you want a snake that will perform like few serpents can - drop some bugs in the enclosure and enjoy the show. Their small size and general flightiness make them poor handlers. They're not aggressive at all, you just get the feeling they'd rather be gliding through some bushes than stuck in human hands. All in all, very graceful creatures that make amazing display subjects.
