Rescue: Handi & Capp

Meet Handi:
Have you ever wonderd what really happens if you don't give a leopard gecko calcium?
Well there bodies will start to get it from it's own skeletal system. And this is the result:

In the following picture please notice the stump of a hand in the front right leg:

Handi is approximatly 8 months, a little male, and was just purchased by a caring woman who honestly does't know much about geckos, and is the first to admit it. But after spotting this little guy hobble she couldn't let him stay at the store. She yelled and screamed and took home the gecko. She was refered to us through her vetrinarian, a very careing woman I must say. Anyhow Handi will be ok, just a bit deformed. He is being treated for some internal parasites that are common, but he is eating well and should have a nice happy life here with us.

Please also meet Capp:
Capp is from a different owner then Handi, beleive it or not. He was owned by a teenager whose mother turned him over to us. There was apparent neglect of husbandry.


As you can see Capp is very malnurished and is also deformed due to Metabolic bone disease. Sadly he was unable to shed his limbs properly as you can see. In the following picture you can see one of his limbs after we cleared away the dead skin.

Capp should be ok. He is eating well enough and we will watch him for any decline in health.
They are both being treated with calcium.

Handi will actually be staying with us. The woman who purchased him from the petstore didn't actually want him. She just felt the need to get him out of there. (which was very sweet). She did come for a tour of our rescue, and thou was not a snake person she does seem to have a higher respect for reptiles as a whole now.

Handi and Capp once better, and if capable, will be taking turns teaching the general public, about well handicaps, during our educational shows.
