Hi all,
we had a huge adventure today. W went mountain biking and herping all in one. we went a good ten miles (which to my little out-of-shape self is far..lol)So I am beat.
But I did find a beautiful specimen of this particular snake:

Actually Water Mocassin's have been seen a little further north in Va then the SW tip. There are a bunch along the lower Chickahomany River down around Willamsburg and south.
But anyway how cool to see the water snake.
I wonder how many get killed by people who have no clue that they are harmless.

We have seen them here in western NY. The only one I personally saw was a tiny baby, around 6 inches long at the max. We found it a few weeks ago along a creek in Buffalo, NY. I took a pic but I think I taped over it on my camera.
