Woo Hoo!! Monty Joe finally ate something other than a live rodent.

As some of you know, Monty Joe had never ate anything but live his entire 3+ years of life. A couple of weeks ago I finally got him switched over to rats. Well, Im proud to say that he finally ate a fresh killed rat today, about 3 seconds of wiggling it in front of him and he took it. I let him go for 2 weeks before trying him on fresh killed to make sure he was hungry. He was....... Round of applause for Monty.....

Im so happy that both transitions (mouse to rat, live to fresh killed) were quite easy. Now if I can get him to convert to frozen thawed. That is where the problem will be. Have tried several times on the frozen one's and he has never taken them. But, I guess fresh killed is better than live......Right guy's? LOL

Yep I hear ya def moving in the right direction - some are fussier eaters than others - we had one who WAS eating f/t mice not want to transition to f/t or fresh-killed rats - after 3 weeks it's off the wagon with live and hoping to coerce him back to f/t.

Congratulations! I'm still in the process of trying to make Merry and Pippin eat fresh killed!

I haven't heard of anyone suggest this before, but would you be able to take F/K to get the interest of your BP, then when he/she gets the scent and is ready to go for it, try switching it out for a F/T? You know like dangle one from tongs in your right hand and the other from your left hand with a different set of tongs ? If they go for the F/T then you can just freeze the F/K right? Probably sounds stupid, but I was just wondering about that a little while ago.
