From the reptile show yesterday. I bought this guy from a breeder and my nephew bought one too from the same guy.

I bought a male and he bought a female.
Here is mine he is a Veiled Chameleon and they are not as difficult to keep as one might think. You just have to follow a few rules and they do great.

Very adorable! Are you gonna be buying a screened cage? If you are, you should check out reptariums, real cheap. I hear chams need moving air for comfort.

Yea i got the ceiling fan on full blast. I am going to build him a cage. The reptarium that he needs is like 100 bux and leaves alot to be desired. As a rule of thumb if he is light colored he is comfortable if he is dark he is stressed. He eats crickets like crazy. And loves to get on my finger. When he is on my hand he turns beautiful colors like purple and pink and some blues.

You got a great starting size, I just bought mine a week ago but he is still very much a baby and smaller then your guy. A few tips besides the basics...when placing crickets with supplements watch out for powder entering the cage and getting in your chameleons eyes, it can cause major problems. Good luck.

Oh good thanks for the tip. It was recommended by the breeder to use a gel that is water for the crickets but also holds calcium. He said that its way better then the powder because he said that when he eats it the powder may fall off of the cricket and get in its eyes.

Veilds are great. He is really friendly and loves to come out. I put my hand in the tank and he comes to me immediatly.

My nephew also plan on breeding them he has a female from a different litter.

Very cute! Try to take some pix when he's different colors....I heard that chams. were hard to keep, but I've always wanted one. I guess I just assumed that it would be too difficult to provide the proper care for one...good luck w/your new guy!

The breeder said that the Vieled Chameleon is the greatest starter chameleon. They don't have the requirements that other Chams have. These guys only need to be misted once per day. They eat 3-10 vitamin enriched crickets per day. They love ficus trees and will devoid the plant of leaves in a day. I gave him some turnip greens and he loved them.

Congrats on your new little guy.
You can build good caging with the right screening, wiring. We have a setup in storage that is specifically for chams when they come in, just a basic screen box filled with foilage a few drip systems and some other beautiful greenery.
Just remember to get the uv lighting and your basking spots all set (averagely takes about three days of obsevation to ensure success with a screened enclosure) before you put your guy in it. Hope this may help.

I Actually plan on building 2 enclosures that are 4'X2'X2'. I will put one outside with a ficus plant and let him stay outside to get some natural UVA and UVB rays. I bought a flourescent light that gives off both and the basking lamp is a day time 80 Watt projection basking lamp. The other i will keep inside and will have the basking lamp and flourescent and will fill with a bunch of vines. He will look awsome when he grows up. Cant Hardy wait.
