    Incubator Fan

Hey, I am nowhere close to being an electrician so I thought I'd post here. I finished building my incubator with a broken wine cooler and 11" flexwatt hooked up to a Herpstat. I also reused the built in fan (DC) and after two days of testing, the plastic fan stopped working. I have no idea why. Any ideas on what my next step should be? Obviously I should replace the fan but which and where should I get the new fan?

    Thanks.

Take a look at Radio Shack. They have the 12V DC fans on there for about 15 bucks.

A lot of people get a cell phone charger to hook it up. Hope this helps! Good Luck.

Can I wire that to the back of the wine cooler? On the "circuit," there is a plug/wire labeled fan. That way, I could use the the original power cord to the incubator.

You would need to check what type of power is coming out of those wires. The old fan should have a label on it that says the voltage/amperage/etc. Personally I wouldn't wire the new fan to the existing hardware.

I would get a new fan and a DC wall wart of the proper output for the fan. You could even wire in a rotary style light dimmer switch to control the speed of the fan.

Is what I would go with. Just cut the end off the cords, and solder the wires together (+ to + & - to -)

    Re: Incubator Fan

I went to Fry's Electronics for the fan for mine a couple days ago and I explained what I was trying to do. The guy showed me a molex adapter, like this http://www.walmart.com/ip/16318477?w...l5=pla&veh=sem and I bought a little CPU fan. You just plug the adapter into the wall and the fan hook straight into the end and runs fine. He said he's actually had people come in who were building incubators and had the same question so he knew just what to recommend.

This is exactly the thing I've been looking for!
I didn't know the name of it, so I've been having a difficult time finding it. I didn't want to wire a cell phone charger.
    Thanks!

You're extremely welcome Me too lol! I didn't even know such a thing existed and I didn't really want to fiddle with wiring either. The one I bought can do 2 fans at once and it's just plug and play... or plug and incubate as the case may be. Thank you Fry's Electronics dude!
