Halting breeding
I read that asfs should not be separated from each other due to the difficulty of reintroducing the separate colony member. So if you wanted to stop breeding for a few months do you take the male out and let him live by himself?

I wouldn't, they will probably kill him when you reintroduce him. You could try vanilla extract on all of their noses, but they still would probably reject him.

Re: Halting breeding
Not really, I usually just start another colony. Then I feed off the male in the established colony, and let the females finish nursing. Then I feed them off, and by then the next colony is usually ready to start again.
Hope this helps.

I've found that I have had success introducing just weaned babies into an already established colony.
So, if you have a few colonies, you can remove the male from one, and replace with a just weaned male when you want to continue breeding.
