    how do you trade?

i've yet to trade snakes with someone, although when i start producing I'm sure i will. seeing all these adds on fauna and kingsnake offering trades got me wondering.. when you guys trade through shipping, how do you go about doing so? reading all these horror stories of people getting scammed makes me a little nervous about shipping out a snake without first getting money from them. do y'all agree to ship out to each other on the same day? or wait until the other person's animal arrives and then ship yours?

    Re: how do you trade?

Normally, the person proposing the trade should ship first...with that being said, I've shipped first on trades that have been offered to me, but only because I was able to find enough on the person offering the trade to be confident that I would receive my end no problem. As with purchasing animals, pictures, references, etc...should be available per request. Any hassle or delays on these sort of things, and I move on.

    how do you trade?

    Either:

Agree to ship on the same day.

    Or

Usually the person who initiates the trade will ship first. For example: you post the ad, i respond to the ad, we agree on a deal, and then I ship first since I'm the one who initiated it.

Those are usually the 2 most common I think.

A trade is just like a regular transaction except in this case an animal is used as a form of payment.

If someone initiate a trade with me they will have to ship first, once received I will then ship the animal they traded for.

If I initiate a trade I will ship first.

    how do you trade?

Face to face. It's the most fool proof way. I know that its not always possible but its the best.

This. If I'm really comfortable with who they are, I'll ship first. Example - I did a trade with VPI last year that they initiated. I shipped first, because of their good reputation.

Dealing with someone that is well known/reputable in the industry is the best option IMO.

Shipping out on the same day, can be risky. I can think of several ways that can turn ugly.

Our clients use our services for trades all the time, and they've always done so with reputable breeders/members, and because of it, it has always gone smoothly.

    Just my thoughts,
