Ok I have been bitten by the same bug as JLC and now want Red Tail Boa.
Went up to Petco today just to look and play with some and that was all it took.
So if Ozzy's new cage ever gets here then no empty tank syndrome for me, Boa here I come!
And now I have the show this weekend OMG how will I not walk out with one
Contacted Alex Hue about some he has for sale. I like the male he has.
But Alex says his arent BCI or BCC he is in the train of thought like others I have talk to that there really is no difference. Says his top out around 5-7' with males being on the smaller side.

I have one question/concern since I own a bp what steps do I need to take to assure Ozzy and no IBD from the Boa?
Also the same set up I have for Ozzy should work fine for the Boa while small? I did notice Boa's take cooler temps 88-90/78-80 and same humididty.
    Thanks!

This page gives a list and pictures of all the different BC subspecies:

    http://www.boa-constrictors.com/com/com.html

There are lots more out there than just BCI and BCC. As much as I respect Alex Hue for being a good businessman and taking good care of his animals...I personally would want a little more information about exactly what kind of snake I was getting.

As for IBD...the best thing you can do is to never have them in the same room together, and always always wash well between handling each one. The next best thing you can do is to buy from a reputable breeder who is most likely to have clean stock.

Sounds like Alex may think along the same lines as Jeff Ronne "The Boaphile". Here is a link to a detailed thread by Jeff Ronne stating why he thinks Colombian boas (commonly called BCI's) are really BCC's.
It doesn't really change anything except maybe taxonomy. When it comes down to it, the snakes are the same ones we are already familiar with. Some people disagree with the differentiating of subspecific status of Colombians as BCI's, and think that the Central American boas should be BCI, and South Americans should be BCC, based on scale counts. That is kind of an oversimplification of the issue, but that's the crux of it.

Alex Hue's boas are either Colombians, what most people refer to as BCI's, or an intergrade between "BCC" and "BCI". Either way, they are beautiful animals, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, especially at their current price!!!!

    Thanks, Randy.
He actually sent me the link to that article, very interesting.
The one I want the male he said hasn't tried to bite yet and is feeding good on fuzzys every 4 days and is 18" long-65 grams
I would buy him today but I need my cage from Animal Plastics for my bp Ozzy so I can use Ozzy's old cage for the boa (sigh) AP said it was gonna take about a month to get it and it has only been a week ( again sigh).
So I figured I try to get as much info as possible between now and then on boa's.

Jotay...couldn't you get an inexpensive rubbermaid to put the new guy in until the AP cage arrives and you can rearrange everyone into permanent housing?

......just trying to help....really I am!

    I was thinking about that.
I am gonna see what I see at the show and on the way home I just may have to stop at Target and get that rubbermaid
I really want a Boa, heck I have been having dreams about them.
