    Probe flexwatt placement issue

Setup: AP rack, herpstat running flexwatt, probe placed between flexwatt and tub taped in place with electrical tape on the rack part only

Problem: probe bending and moving when tub is slid in, causing wear on probe and potential dislodgement

Plan: use dremel to expand existing channel for probe so it can reach flexwatt directly, tape probe to the flexwatt directly

Question: is there a problem with taping the probe onto the flexwatt? Could this cause a misreading of the temperature? Melt something? Is electrical tape ok?

    Thanks!
    -Devon

Regardless of what anyone else says:
I use foil tape to tape my probe to the back of the shelf on the flex-a-watt.
Then again I have a tub set up with a thermometer in it that I rotate through the rack every couple weeks to make sure that all my shelves are heating.
I adjust the thermostat to in tub temps according to the thermometer tub
All my racks are home made.

Your AP rack should have one long strand of flex-a-watt weaved through it, right?
Can you put the probe on the side of the tub where it goes up to the next shelf?

I don't recommend using foil tape on the probe directly has this can cause false readings.

Can you put the probe under the flexwatt then tape the flexwatt down?

My main concern is having tape in contact with the flexwatt, is there a safety hazard with doing that? If not, is one type of tape better than another?

Tape is perfectly fine on the flexwatt. This is not my picture but this is 100% a mirror image how I have my flexwatt taped to my ap pvc enclosure.

I would recommend foil tape, I get mine from reptile basics.

Just curious why the flexwatt is taped to the middle instead of in the channel?

You can also get aluminum tape at lowes, home depot, or any other hardware store.

It does have the long strand, but I've noticed that when there's no tub on top of the probe the temperature disparity between the probe reading and the temp in the tub goes up to around 10 degrees. I want to keep them as close as possible. I am also doing the rotating thermometer check, it's interesting to see the variation up and down the rack.
