judy, i visited the national zoo a few times over the weekend. our hotel (wardman mariot) is right at the woodley park/zoo metro stop. the gaboon, surprisingly, looks a whole lot bigger than it did the last time i was there, which was a month or two before your photo was taken. they have also amped up a lot of the enclosure's in the reptile house, making them clearly more of a natural habititat but allowing you to view the animals more often. the best part about the entire herp house at the national zoo, imo, was this fella' chillin' right out front. he came to me, as if he was begging to be posted on bp.net.

most of my herp photos didn't turn out, but i'm gonna post about my entire trip when i get time so i'll post a few good pics of some of their mammals.

Very cool, Will! I definitely want to get back there one more time before we move. Gotta visit that gaboon again...and the komodo, too. I really liked him.

I saw a couple of those rhinos at the San Antonio Zoo. I would never own a venemous snake. I don't think i want to be responsible if it kills a kid. They are not for everyone but they are beautiful snakes none the less.
    Thanks,
    Damien

Cool shot Will, dude wouldn't stop soakin and come up for us.

Nah the Rhine was googled - wish i'd have seen one. The pic doesnt do it justice, as Will mentioned that thang is incredibly thick. Did you happen to make it to the invert' house? That last open exhibit before you exit with all the golden orb spiders? That was pretty freaky almost walking into the webs, thinking it was a fake display, and then seeing them all actually moving. The kids were totally agog.

i was @ a hot show a while back, saw this guy reach in a glass tank, picked up with his bear hands, one of the biggest, fattest gabby that i had ever seen. so i walked over to see if this dumbass was gonna get hit. here the poor thing was a void, and its head was all sunken, tooo ssad tooo sad. but the darn thing was puppy dog tame. couldn'tt believe it. still had its fangs the poor thing. but i did such a double take when the guy reached in to pick it up. take a second and imagine that....freaky huh.
