I don't have any, but I am interested to hear from people who do. Are they scary to own? Is it tough having a snake that you can never handle? Have you had any close calls or actually gotten bitten?

Great to hear about the new forum.
At this time Rusty Reptiles doesn't take in any hots. We do not have our permits and we have a young child in the house.
My husband and I have worked with them a bit. And I think the trick I use when handeling hots, is learning to appreciate and respect the species you are working with (just like non hots).

The hottest animal I have ever personally dealt with were large tropical centipedes from the genus Scolopendra - these were huge foot long centipedes with enormous prehensor fangs and a bite from one would send you packing off to the ER in extreme pain...there was also the risk of tissue necrosis as well. I had about ten of them at one time and I started to get paranoid - I kept thinking that mathematically the odds of me getting nailed were pretty high what with me dealing with ten of these monsters.....and they were lightning fast animals to mess with...like small black mambas or something. I eventually got out of the whole centipede hobby as I felt it was just too dangerous.....plus I have other people in my household and I did not want to be responsible for someone getting bitten by an escaped pede...
