Surgery on new rescue

Hi all,
This morning we had a boa (common) dropped of to us. We headed straight for the vet for a tail amputation.
Apparently the snake was burned badly on the tip of the tail. The girl did bring it to a vet, actually the same vet we used (which was convenient to already have some medical history) The girl treated the snake appropriately with antibiotic injections and burn cream.
Untill the snake got agressive. She simply wasn't comphtorable with him attacking, and just couldn't get near him, (which is understandable) to continue with his treatments.
So he arrived this morning. and without having treatments for the last four days, his tail became extremely necroptic. So off to the vet.
My husband and I were thrilled to once again be able to assist in surgery and learn from our vet.
The snake came out well. Just with out a tail.
I'll try and post pictures soon. and we hope for the best with his healing process.
I'll keep you guys updated on his progress if you would like.

Yes, please keep us updated! At least the girl knew she had to find help, rather than let the poor thing waste away. Just wish she'd done it sooner!

I would like the updates too. I hate that she let it last that long without keeping up the treatments, but at least she'd started out well and you had the history to go on. I hope he recovers well.

The woman he came from was trying, which is nice to see. Our vet (who previosly) saw him, was evenm commenting on how nasty he got in just a few days, attitude wise.
He was one of the hissiest little boas I've seen in a while. But I would be the smae way with a dead tail. I'll try and post pictures, it is still an "iffy" period of time, as it can take some time for a reptile to get back to normal after surgery.

It's sad that the poor thing had to get that far-gone. But circumstances happen, I guess. Glad the snake is in Rusty's hands; couldn't imagine a better place for it now.

He is doing well today, active and "patrolling" his area.

How much of his tail did he have to lose?

I was curious about that, too. I'm guessing, since you didn't mention it, that it was a small enough section that it didn't extend into the body too far and won't be interfering with his bodily functions?
