I am starting to keep accurate records of my BP because soon i will be ordering a female and start them on a breeding cycle. What is the easiest way to measure the length of my BPs as many of you know they can stretch out so how do I measure.
    Thanks,
    Damien

There's a program you can download (I think we have a copy of it in our own download section of this forum). You take a digital pic of your snake next to an object with a known length. You have to take the picture from directly above, not at an angle, for it to work. Then you open up the pic in the program and follow the directions to get a pretty accurate measurement.

I'll check our downloads and see if it's there. If not, I"ll find a link.

that program is fairly accurate, but the best way to measure is to stretch a piece of ribbon the length of the snake and measure it.

Mine tend to easily stretch out for me with some coaxing... So my measurements are accurate.

You can also get a piece of clear, rigid tubing (Home Depot, Lowes, or order a set of snake restraining tubes) and mark it off in inch-long increments. Coax your snake to crawl through the tube - obviously you want tubing longer than your snake here - and mark off head & tail once your snake is completely inside and stretched out. Easy as pie...well...with ball pythons anyway. I don't suggest trying this method on something like a retic unless you've got access to giant tubing & a lotta lubing!!!

I usealy just take some ribbon tape measure and wrap it around her body. Not sure how accurate it is but it works.

I go with the string while handling, then measure it.
