I will be graduating in December of 2004 with a major in communications and minor in music business. I have been thinking recently and decided that I am going to try and go to vet school. Since I was about eight I wanted to be a marine biologist but I've never been strong in the math department. So I guess I am wondering - have any of you thought of vet school or know of any vet forums or anything? I know what I have to do to get in and how to go about it (probably try to get into UofIllinois' program) but I was just looking for any advice or any writings from people who have done it before or any comments from you guys. Thanks!
oh and I wouldn't go for marine biology, I would probably go for standard vet with emphasis on exotics.

You should probably send a PM or email to Emroul (Jennifer). her boyfriend is in vet school now and can probably answer most of your questions. Good luck! We can always use more herp-knowledgeable vets.

Or you could always go and train to be a Vet Tech. That's what I am doing and it is so much fun. There isn't much we can't do. The classes are a joy to participate in, well, with the exception of Pharmacology, but I think it depends on the teacher. My teachers are a vet and a vet tech. It's pretty awesome. Just something you might want to consider also if the parents don't have the funds for vet school.

My cousin is a vet. I know she worked like a dog (pardon the pun!) to get through school. It's at least as hard as medical school, if not harder in some ways.

cool about the vet tech idea never thought of that and being that I would be paying for it myself (through loans and such) it sounds like a great idea. Thank you for all of the input!

Like my friend says, "If I don't qualify for vet school, I can always go to medical college!"

We (my husband and I), were trained to be certified technicians through our work places. Good hospitals will pay for you to take the exams, after you have recieved enough hands on training. A few of the techs I have worked with that were fresh out of school, actually wished they were trained through their work place instead. I am sure that depends on the person, hospital and school thou.
    Good luck with your endevours
