Decided to get new pics this afternoon, they are alot better too, as you can see he is a chubby little guy. I fed him last night cause he was cruising around acting like he may be hungry, and believe me, he acted like he was STARVED. However, I am not sure if it is cause he was actually VERY hungry from not being fed right at the pet shop, or if it is cause Savs have that feast or famine thing going anyhow. He is settling in real nice.. oh I cant wait to handle him!!! Enough of my rambling... heres the pics.

Does this cutie have a name yet? What sort of substrate is that?

Still dont have a name yet- still thinking..or waiting to have him tell me what his name is. :lol: And the substrate is a reptile sand like stuff, not repti sand or calci sand..cant remember the name of the stuff right now. I use the same stuff for my AFT Gecko too, I like it, makes it easier to keep clean, and has never caused a problem. I talked to a breeder about the stuff, cause I was unsure about it, he uses this stuff too. But, if I can find something better..other than aspen or the like, I would switch...I am allergic to the pine and aspen anyhow... and I kinda want to stick to a natural looking sub., and Savs dig alot too, so it satisfies his digging. Any ideas?

That stuff looks pretty nice. If it works, I wouldn't switch it. But if you're looking for something else, Eco-earth works really well. It's that shredded coconut stuff. It's shredded pretty fine...you wouldn't know it was coconut if they didn't tell you. It looks and feels just like a nice, dark dirt, but doesn't get "muddy" when it gets damp or wet. Great stuff for digging and burrowing in. Supposedly safe for accidental ingestion, but I don't feed on it.

Hmm, eco-earth, never heard of it, but it sounds nice... whats the cost like on it? I never knew that stuff existed. Thanks for the info, I will check into it.

Any ideas on names?

It's relatively inexpensive, I think. It comes in bricks, and one regular sized brick is about $2-3. You soak it and break it apart and it makes enough to generously fill a 30 gallon tank. That's the one downside to the stuff...getting it out of brick form and into usable substrate is kind of a pain.
