This morning I looked in on Ghost, the little bci, and he was soaking. he has not been out of his warm dry hide since I got him a week ago, except to eat a f/t mouse and then go back into hiding. I think that now he realizes that there is a water bowl in there!
But is soaking a normal thing? I know that he just shed a week ago friday, so it's not that. I also know that he doesn't have mites, unless some spontaneously cropped up overnite. Am I just being paranoid?

you are probably being paranoid. lol. soaking is normal...but if he does it for a few days you might want to try upping the humidity or providing another hide.

Also....prolonged soaking can be a sign of mites. If a snake has mites, it will soak in order to try and kill the pesty buggers. Keep an eye out for this as well.

Snakes will also soak if the temps in their cage are too high.
