Hi fellow members, I am just wondering what types of reptiles or amphibians you all may want to breed, support the breeding of, do not support the breeding of, and why?
    Thanks

Well...I dream of breeding bp's someday. There are some beautiful morphs I'd like to be a part of...although I think they're getting a big carried away with some of the "designer morphs." I'm much more interested in the morphs that have actually been wild-caught...not so much the ones that have been mixed in a blender. LOL

I think captive breeding is a great thing for the animals because (in a perfect world) it should help lessen the impact on the wild-caught populations. I think it is also gradually helping to educate the general public about the wonderfulness of all herps.

If there is a species that is "saturated" on the market...sort of like cats and dogs are today...then I might not support the breeding of that particular species, but I don't know of any. The one thing I think there should be SOME restrictions on are the giant snakes. Burms and retics are too easy to get by people who have NO idea what they're getting into, and that is unfortunate...mostly for the snakes, but sometimes, tragically, for the people, too. But for someone prepared and capable of keeping them, they are wonderful.

    Did I say enough??? LOL

I want to breed ball pythons and crested geckos currently, possibly others eventually. On the points of why breed and which ones not to breed, see Judy's response.

Someday I would like to breed Ball Pythons. Captive bred and breed the non nippy/good eaters. Basically breed normal BP's that would provide people with a healthy, friendly, good first snake as a pet. I'm not real into the designer stuff. Make them affordable for beginners and not let them buy the snake until they pass a basic husbandry quiz.

Yes, but as I've learned, proving that you can memorize the right answer doesn't mean you'll apply it.

true, but I figure it's the best I can do to at least try to make sure the snakes don't get abused... and if they do animal control already has the information that this person should have known and in fact took a quiz and passed. Then they will go to jail for mistreating an animal with proof that the person knew how to take care of the animal. Maybe it's utopian but hey - worth a shot.

I want to eventually breed bps. Just normal ones, although when I get more money in the future, I plan on getting a few albinos. I am fascinated by albinos of any type of animal.
I think that it's cool that there are a bunch of cool bp morphs out there. I can definately respect the people who put in a lot of hours breeding and cleaning cages and experimenting to create them. And if I were to do that, I would definately charge a high price for them, seein's they're rare and all.
What I don't personally support is the taking of BPs from the wild. With the number of captive breeders out there now, why should it be needed? In turn, I don't support buying WC bps from rinky-dink pet stores. And the whole "captuve-hatched" thing amazes me too. Some lowlifes go out and catch a preggo female BP and she lays her eggs, then they sell her off to a pet store and the eggs are hatched on a farm and then sold. Yuk.
