I've never lost a snake before...

But after two years of being an exceptionally difficult feeder, my first and favorite snake - Prince Oberyn - has passed away.

I rescued her from Petsmart, they were going to euthanize her because she was "vicious". She was as far from vicious as a kitten. She was covered in scars from her cagemates, and scared to death.

Rarely could I get her to eat two weeks in a row over the last two years. and after trying quite literally everything - even tubing at one point - she has moved on.

Never getting past 500g, I had to keep this outcome in the back of my mind.

I didn't think I would lose her so soon, but I have to face it now.

Pardon the tank setup - from when I was new and woefully ill prepared for the art of python keeping.

Oh Ryn how I miss you.

Sorry for your loss but now I have a small rant. They wanted to put her down due to viciousness? What the ham sandwich has this world come to? I am glad you got her from that terrible place I hate chain pet stores and will now support them in any way. I go to a little mom and pop shop owned by some punk rockers that have more of an understanding of reptiles then most any one I know. I am truly sorry for your loss and I hope to see you get a new buddy soon.

Yeah - they had her up for 10$ adoption, no returns. She was absolutely terrified. They had her in a tank with NO hides, NO water, and 6 other snakes.

She never bit me, never struck at me and was the calmest baby I've ever had.

I miss her, but I don't think she will ever be replaced. I may get more - yes - but Ryn was my first, and will always be my favorite. For the time being - I have 13 others to take care of.

Reading this breaks my heart. She looked like a total sweetheart and I love the second picture of her. I'm sure she was grateful that you took her from that stupid pet store!

Re: I've never lost a snake before...

So sorry about your loss. It is so hard to give your heart to rescuing a pet store snake, knowing what a horrible start of life it had. Take comfort in knowing you gave her good years that she would never have had if not for you.

Thank you everyone, for the kind words.
I wish I could have done more, but alas, once you've done it all, there isn't much left.

I hope she can move on in peace, knowing at least one person on this planet loved her - even if she didn't love me back.

Before I cut off all my hair, she used to slither up and ball up in my hair. Usually gave me a headache, but it was my favorite thing that she did.

I am sorry for your loss. But you changed the life of a living being on this planet and for that you should be so proud. She had x amount of happy years because of you. Now she can rest in peace
