Capturing true colors....?
So I finally got all my light tent stuff together. Got out my butter tonight to start messing around. Got some great pictures, but they don't seem to really pick up the yellow in her, shows her blushing great though. Looking for photo tips. I have an Olympus, lots of setting options, not with the big fancy lenses, but digital and still takes good photos. I have tried some manuel settings, some auto, they just didn't seem to capture her true color. Also had my mojo out, tried some manuel, some auto. On auto, with him it kept wanting to go to macro. Which didn't look that great. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! I love taking photos, but don't seem to have "the touch" with the light tent and snakes, (yet, anyhow) lol..

Try adjusting where your lights are coming in. Also, you may try changing the type of light bulb to get the truest color with least amount of post work.
I use a point and shoot digital, and I will sometimes adjust the color post to a reference to fix it. It can be tricky to do this and not make the other colors unnatural, but most photoshop-esque programs will let you adjust each spectrum individually.

It was recommended to me to use three 5500K bulbs. Right now I'm just using one bulb (EcoSmart 27-Watt (100W) Full Spectrum Craft CFL Light Bulb from Home Depot) in a 10.5" light dome with the same light tent design that's in the light tent sticky. I'm probably going to upgrade to three bulbs at some point, but I find that the auto white balance function on the photo editor I'm using does the job for the time being.

Argh.. Not happy with results. Got more lights. They are still better than phone photos, but can't get colors right. It would seem not enough light with my butter, so I got more (total of 3) and they seem to wash my bee out. Wish my hand was better at photography.....
Butter with one 100w
Bee with one 100w, and two 75w alternating from shining from front and through sides.
Don't worry, I will keep at it till it is perfect. May be awhile before you get collection thread...

Lol! The butters photo looks pretty good. The bees definitely gotta find the sweetspot. But its hard to make your bee look bad!

first thing i would ask is are you shooting on a white background. if so then your white balance is out. are you using auto white balance? the top one is cream the bottom one looks like a green colour cast. try adjusting so the white is white and then on an adjustment layer work on the actual snake. it takes photographers years to leanrs these techniques so be patient

Re: Capturing true colors....?
First, take a photo of the white background, (you may need to use manual focus) and then look on your camera for "manual white balance".. It will ask you to select a picture and you choose the one that you took. It will then adjust the white balance to make the background cardboard or whatever you are using, a true white. Then your colours should be good. It is a bit hard to explain, and if you have any problems you can PM me. I also don't know what camera you are using so I am not sure of how you set it up. Holler if you need more help

Thank you! It's a digital Olympus. Not with the fancy lenses, but there are lots of buttons and adjustments, and settings and such (that I am not entirely sure how to set up to what), preset "scenes" to shoot from as well as auto and manuel. I will try looking for the white adjustment. I took a couple pictures the other day before I had lamps with my husbands led flashlight for light, and I think color was better.
This is led flashlight-
This is with three lights-
This one I tried to adjust exposure on a photo program-
This one I found on my photo app, just kinda funny, the rarely seen, pink bee! Lol.
I will try getting the white set right with the paper first. I also tried some on a black sheet, and they were even more washed out. Camel, thank you for the offer, you will probably hear from me, lol.
