I've decided that I'm going to get some crested geckos -- not sure on time table, but more than likely a few months down the road. Anyway, I've been looking at reptariums, cage plans, etc., and a lot of them use pvc or similar pipes.

It occurred to me that, living where I do, there's a lot of bamboo growing around here (yep, more growing in GA than anywhere else in the US -- don't ask me why), and I wondered if there were any health reasons not to use bamboo in cage building? Obviously I'd need to make sure it was bug-free before using it as a cage, but are there any other drawbacks that you know of?

Wait, a cage MADE out of bamboo? Or a cage with bamboo in it?

I can only imagine how easy a bamboo cage would be to escape. The time and effort taken making it. Then it might rot.

I know people use bamboo as climbing branches tho, looks real nice.

A cage made of plastic-coated wire mesh and bamboo instead of pvc is what I was thinking. Rotting would be bad, though, so maybe I should just use it to make climbing branches and stuff. That certainly ought to be easy enough. And make the cage itself with pvc, which shouldn't be very expensive. Thanks for bringing up the rotting thing, as I had just considered whether bamboo was at all toxic.
