I have to laugh. I agree with many of these replies. The fear of snakes is so deep seeded...going back far beyond Biblical times so yeah, it IS hard to convince the general public. Animal Planet is just doing this for the money like any other corporate entity. Their shows play into emotion. WE all know the truth so WE are the ones who need to educate those willing to listen and learn. I have written to Animal Planet several times...and surprise, NO response.

Not really, snakes were regarded in many different ways in the past. Snakes were common at places of healing during the Greek and Roman times and they thought that the tongue of the snake had healing powers. That's why snakes are on the symbols used by doctors today. It is a reference to the staff of Asclepius. It is mainly the Abrahamic religions that are more familiar today that cast the snake in the primarily "evil" role.

Just to point out another flaw in the "the Bible says all snakes are the Devil" thought process - Moses's staff turned into a snake as one of his miracles to Pharoah and it ate the "bad" magicians' snakes/staffs.

On an even more religious note, a Christian with a brain would know that God made snakes too, and loves them equally among all the other animals.
