Is it okay to put my ball python in the grass outside?
I have a beautiful adult female ball python. I feed her F/T. She has been outside before and my sister likes to put her in the grass and let her crawl around. My mom put her on the tree and she liked it. However she had a very, very non-threatening case of mites one time. I don't actually KNOW if it was mites but I figured it was because I looked in the cage and saw something spider-looking bright red with creepy-crawly legs and everything. It wasn't the size of a pencil dot like mites are so I really don't know for sure because it was bigger than mites are, it was about 3 centimeters.
1. Do you think it was a baby spider looking for warmth or a mite?
2. Is it safe to put her in the grass or will she get mites?
P.S. Other than that she had no OTHER signs of mites however I treated her anyway.

Your snake won't get mites from the grass. Snake mites are parasites that require a living host to feed from to stay alive.
If you're going to put your snake down in the grass, just make sure that you keep a close eye on him/her, that there aren't any rodent burrows or holes in the ground that he/she can easily slither into. As long as you're paying close attention and don't get distracted, you should be fine.
Also, and this should go without saying, make sure the temps outside are in the appropriate range before considering taking your bp outdoors...
EDIT: What you're describing doesn't sound like a mite at all. Maybe a small spider or a large tick, but not a mite...

The bug you describes isn't a snake mite. Snake mites are black and look like poppy seeds.

Gorgeous albino! I don't like regular albinos much, but if I was ever tempted to buy one, it would have to look like yours!

It sounds like the critter you are describing may be a tick.
