    Light Cycles

I understand ball pythons do not need/require light and usually light that is naturally provided (e.g. from a bedroom window) is more than sufficient. For those that do have provide a direct light source what cycles do you provide through out the year? Currently mine are on a 12 hour on/off cycle. I was wondering if certain parts of the year if it would be more optimal to provide a 8 hour on 16 off cycle for example.

^^ Agreed. Our snake room is lit artificially and cycles 12/12.

    Re: Light Cycles

Once when my snakes have their own room I plan on giving them a 12/12 light cycle.
My rats are on a 14/10 cycle.

    Light source

12/12 means 12 hrs of light on and 12 hrs off? If my understanding is correct, how do u maintain the temps?

So does anyone notice a difference in breeding activity when there is a light cycle taking place? Currently my rats get the light from the window in my bedroom with blinds closed. The snakes get lights when I feel like plugging them in for the day, otherwise it's usually room light when we are there. If light does effect them I need to keep that in my mind for my future reptile room.

Temps and light are totally different things and are regulated separately. Temps are regulated by a thermostat.

I've only noticed a difference in the rats. Ball Pythons haven't really shown any change. Lower light cycle slows rodent production.

Not to derail the thread but thank you very much. Would a fluorescent light be sufficient for the ratties?

Bringing this one back from the dead with a light cycle question.

Does a light cycle make a difference if your are keeping your snakes in a rack with freedom breeder tubs that let no light / or hardly any light in?

    Just wondering.

    Thanks in advance.
