Thje snake is usually packaged in a cardboard box labeled as LIVE REPTILE or something similar, with some form of insulation and ~2 heat packs inside, with the snake(s) inside a bag or container inside the box.

The safest way to ship (both for the snake and for legalities and insurance) is Delta Dash, which does require that you go to your nearest airport for pickup. Others do ship Airborne, FedEx, or UPS to your door, but they will not insure the animals, do not condone the shipping of reptiles, may open and refuse your package en-route, and no not guarantee delivery time or condition. That said, usually it's the packaging and not the service that determines the condition in which the snakes arrive and if you order from one of the big breeders like those you named above and are there to receive the shipment, everything should go just fine.

I have had things shipped to me via UPS, FedEx, Airborne, and all in all, I would go with UPS. It usually runs about $40-$50 depending on wieght and where you are located from the shipper. I agree with Marla, you will have NO problems with any of the big breeders. And I'll bet if something tragic were to happen enroute, they would replace it free of charge if you could prove something happened. I aslo agree that Delta Dash is the safest way to go, but it usually runs about $100 with a box charge, and it is really inconvienant. Whichever you prefer, both work just fine. Oh, just make sure you ask the breeder if they guarantee live arrival, and make sure you are HOME when the box arrives, otherwise in most cases, the live arrival guarantee does not apply.

    Good luck,
    Jennifer

Oh, and this won't be a problem with a major breeder either, but do not ever allow someone to ship you a live reptile via US Postal Service! It is illegal and if you are the receiver you could be liable just as the shipper is.
