I know this has probably been addressed somewhere but Ill ask this again just in case. Ive just about finished setting up. All I need is a rheostat a water bowl and two hides wich Im mking out of cardboard boxes. Anyhoo if the ground temps range from 90-92 on the warm side and 78-80 on the cool side does it matter if the general ambient temp is lower? I ask this cause thats the case with me right now, ambient temp is at about 75.
Thanks for all the help, if everything gos well I should be ready to buy a BP in two weeks!

Yeah 75 sounds a little cool for an ambient temp. My room temp in my house is higher than that... One reason is to keep up the ambient temp in her home. But with substrate being heated and a dome light on top I don't see how you could have a temp that low.... do you have a light??

I would lower the settings to low, or medium at the most.....high is much too hot and may overheat your BP.

David, did you read what the floor temps were? If that's what they are then the heat pad settings are just right.
Beaglegod, I'd give it at least a few hours to determine what the ambient heat will normally be, particularly since heat rises. Do you keep the room the enclosure is in especially cool (like some folks drop temp to 68F-ish to save money)? If so, you might want to consider moving it to whatever your warmest room is.

Wow the hot spot went up to 97 and the ambient temp on the cool side reads 74. I better rethink this cause winter over here in new jersey is brutal.

medium is usually good for the hot side
and low for the cool side
where are you mesuring the ambiant temp from in the cage???
if you mesure above where you have the air holes that may be the reason you're having such a low ambiant temp
let us know how it goes
Girlfriend: Your room smells like reptile!!!
Me: Are you saying my balls smell??
