It is the tube that snakes can extend out of their mouth while feeding that allows them to breathe. Is it a trachea, as in humans? Anyways, I caught this pic of Julie (about 1200g) downing a 358g rat. It clearly shows the breathing tube extended. I thought it was pretty cool. Julie is now full for quite some time!!!!

Great picture, Randy! As for the tube (or trachea), I know what it does and have no idea what it is called, lol. Must be very convienant for them though. :lol: Someone's got to know it...

ya its just called the trachea. (i looked that one up). i thought it had a different name too. i see my snake do that especially during big meals too. it must be pretty strong to not get squeezed shut. hiw long did it take her to get that meal down? when i feed really big meals it takes like 2 hours to get down! a long way from the ten minutes of normal meals.

Yeah, at about 29% of her body weight, it took her about 45-50 minutes to get it down. I wasn't sure she'd do it, but she did! Incidentally, it was her first F/T! Woohoo!
