Wooooo!! I LOVE the day before garbage day! Look what I found in someone's trash!
Pictured above is a 10 gallon tank with decorative foam backing, two heating pads, small kritter keeper, branches w/ base, plants w/ base, foam shelf, three food dishes, and a thermometer! Granted I'm trying to get rid of aquariums and can only really use the branches and plants for Eleanor, but oh well! I love trash night :-D I'm the queen of trash picking... not that I go through people's garbage, but I do seem to notice things when I drive by. I found a hanging stained glass lamp for my uncle once, which is now hanging in his kitchen :-D I'm proud of my unintentional treasure hunting!

That's quite a deal, I found a setup like that once, only at a garage sale for $10. If you're going to use it for a snake (which, why the heck wouldn't ya? LOL) Make sure you disinfect it really well. Who knows what diseases were over at that other house! That wouldn't be good, ya know?

Very cool! I love finding treasures in unexpected places. I once bought a valuable camera at a flea market for $3 because the people didn't know what they had. That's the kind of thing that will make your day.

I also bought a used Sega Dreamcast for 14 buck today :-D I actually bought one yesterday... and exchanged three different machines until I got a working one... but I did finally get one!! I'm sure the people at the video game store all think I'm crazy!
And I wish I could stick a snake in there, but no more animals for me 'til after college, I promised my boyfriend (we'll already be hiding Eleanor in an apartment next school year, lol). I'll have to hang on to that background thing though, those go for like 30 bucks at pet stores here!
Oh-- and the tank is about 12.5 inches, same as all my other 10 gallons. This wasn't in my town... my trash night is Thursday, and I'm feeling lucky :-D

soak it in a diluted bleach solution. then bake it....i think its at 250 degrees for half an hour or something...hopefully someone else will elaborate...

i baked mine at 200 for about 20 minutes, seemed to work well. the driftwood gained a more earthy looking tone, too.

Aaaahhhhh, dumpster diving......a little known art. Amazing some of the things you can find when patrolling the city on a graveyard shift!

Is it ok that it has sphagnum moss on the bottom or will that burn up? And for plants... just soak them? Just a guess, but plastic would melt in an oven right? lol
