I was wondering, if a bp's temps/humidity is right, cage is clean, and water is clean, are there any health risks? Such as like, just a freak, out of nowere infections? btw, my question is given the fact the bp has never had any prior medical problems.

I have not heard of any risks involving its environment, but I bet there is risk of who ever handles the snake to bring something to the snake. I will have to do some reading up on that, maybe even call my vet and ask..cause thats a great question.

Sure there are.....mites can be introduced by you or by another snake.....as can other parasites. Thats why quarantine is so important.

but i meant if the snake is in it's own enclosure, and nothing about it's enviornment ever changes. i.e., new snakes, different handlers.

The same handlers could bring in different things on their hands or bodies when they do handle the snake, especially if they don't always scrub up first. Is one of the kids ill?

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is a reptile vet in training- mind you he is not yet a doctor...but here is what he said. There should be no risk to the animal in its immediate environment..but, you also have to take into account for anything "viral" coming into the environment by air. And he did mention that a handler could easily bring something in to the snake that may pose a threat, but that it is a little less likely. I also asked him about the mite question. He said that a human cannot bring mites into the snake because mites do not infest and choose to live on humans cause we cannot provide them with what they need. But it is possible to introduce mites via prey items or another snake. OK Wizill, hope this helped.
