First time ASF owner :3 pic included

I went to the ERAS show today and was lucky enough to find a breeder who had live ASF feeders I have a 1:3 colony for $25. Super excited and I just had to share

Nice, you'll be overrun before you know it! I picked up 2.2 back in September and now have two 1.3 tubs that keep me up to my ears in babies, very prolific little suckers.

These guys are so tame too! Was a bit nervous that I'd get a mean bunch considering this is the first time I've even seen them for sale

They were in plastic tubs because my mama mouse was still weaning her babies in my tank. This is their house now:

You'll love having them around. Mine have been in tubs like this for over two years with no problems. They generally won't chew the tub if they have a wheel and rodent chew logs/caves.

I also supplement mine with dried meal worms now. They love them!!! I found a huge bag in the bird seed section at a local Big R store. Which is just like Farm and Fleet.

    They also love dubia roaches.

These are regular Norway rats but my ASF are in the same thing.

Ahaha I could never do roaches. I'm okay with worms, and plan to get them a few next time I'm in town. I've heard how ASFs hunt crickets an how it's super cute too, but I'm way too terrified of crickets/grasshoppers to even go near them.

Hey Foschi what material do you have for ventilation in the top of that tub? I usually see screens used but yours doesnt look like a screen.

OP: Nice pickups, ASFs are actually pretty cute for a yucky rodent lol!

No way! They can definitely chew through screen. Even metal screen. I use hardware cloth. I think those tubs have 1/2 hardware cloth. Never had a chew-out yet. It comes in big rolls at the hardware store. Fairly easy to cut with wire cutters. I usually use a double layer (bottom side of lid and top side of lid) but this tub only has one layer on it.
