Other snakes...

My friend is lookin at gettin a snake, but he doesn't want a ball because he wants a small snake.

Any ideas what kinda snakes get 1-2 feet in length and are for beginners?

I'm trin to talk him into gettin a ball if/when i get a male and breed them

If he doesn't want a big snake, then don't make him get a bp. He'll just end up not wanting it anymore. Talk him into a colubrid, perhaps a small species of kingsnake. True, some grow very large, but some stay quite small.

1-2 feet is absolutely tiny....

A hognose maybe, or a rosy boa.

Rosy Boas are supposed to be good beginner snakes, and as I recall, they don't get much more than about 3 feet long. Biggest trouble with them is that they don't captive breed as readily as some other species, so it's harder to find CB specimens. Good news on that is that Rosies are native to the U.S., so even wild caught specimens aren't "imported".

1'-2' is a really small snake. There aren't many out there that small. Even garters get bigger than that. Childrens Pythons only get about 3', Rosy boas and Sand boas only get around 3'. An anthill python is around 2'-3', but they are EXPENSIVE. Cornsnakes are good beginner snakes, and aren't girthy like BP's. They will get as long or longer, though.
Nightcrawlers normally stay under 2', and aren't as girthy as BP's!

I would suggest a Corn Snake. They are easy snakes to take care of. They do get about 4 feet in lenght though, and only about 2 - 3 inches in diameter. There ae so many morphs to choose from, and they are inexpensive. I think that they run anywhere i te neighborhood of about $40 - $90 dending on the morph that you get.
