Goodbye Shotzi and Zoe

In just one week we lost two pets, two family members.

Two days ago my mom sent us a text saying that Shotzi died of heart failure. We never even got to see her. She was twelve when she died, and we had her for many good years. I remrmber when you would climb up onto the washer to get at the cat food, and when you taught the other dogs to eat out of the cat box. You were the smartest dog I've ever met, and I'm glad that I had you in my life. We won't forget you.

Today Zoe got out and got hit by a car. Even though it severed her spine, she found the will to get back to us. She died in our arms of internal bleeding. It was just yesterday when you were running around jumping on everyone and then falling asleep next to us on the couch. You were only a year old, and you were only with us for a few months, but we loved you, and it was clear that you loved us back. I don't believe in heaven, but I hope you aren't in any pain. We miss you.

Thanks guys. We were going to spend all next week at the beach. We got a rental house with a private strip of beach for Zoe to run without us being yelled at by the neighbors. Hoobie keeps looking for her, he doesn't understand that she's not coming back. With Shotzi we at least saw it coming, but Zoe was so young. She died before she got to live.
