Kingsnake is a privately owned website, just as Ball-Pythons.Net is. Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech does not apply. They can allow or disallow any type of message/thread that they see fit.
That is why there are Terms of Service, to help users know what the site owner feels is acceptable on their website!

Yes. It was a bunch of three year olds throwing a fit. Not one of them considered the consequences.

I was actually for it. I thought the mods were becoming increasingly over bearing there. And in the days before the attack they were the worst ever. It was nuts, but hopefully it has succeeded in getting more freedom in there.

Being a mod on another forum, as well as a mod of a couple of Yahoogroups, I've heard the "free speech" nonsense more time than I can count.
Freedom of speech is not license to spout off whatever vulgar nonsense crosses our minds. It is the right of the individual to express dissent and disagreement with the Government. It is the right to say, "I disagree" without fear of repercussions.
It is not, however, the "right" to waltz into a forum like this or the ones at KS and say whatever you want. I would expect to be "censored" if I posted crude sexual language or images in this forum, or if I launched into a very offensive and crude tirade against another member here.
I have used the example of churches to illustrate this. I have freedom in this country to believe as I see right, and to express my disagreement with the beliefs of others. That right, however, does not permit me to walk into a church that I disagree with during their weekly services, interrupt what is going on, and proceed to shout all that I think is wrong with their doctrines. If I did so, I could fully expect to be asked to leave, and if I did not, I could fully expect to be arrested for trespassing. The church is, essentially, "private property", and my right to speak there is subject to the approval of the "owners", i.e. the assembled congregation.
Forums like this are also, essentially, "private property", and subject to the rules of the owners. The owners cannot impose on us what to think, but they can impose on us rules of what are acceptable topics for discussion, and what are acceptable means of expressing disagreement.
In most cases, those I've seen whining and crying about their "free speech" are more whining and crying that someone expects them to learn how to express themselves in a mature and polite manner. Or, to put it the way our parents always did, "Grow up!"
We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing.

The censcoring at KS was the small things. They became over bearing with it.

That happens, but sometimes I've seen it happen as an overreaction to excesses taken by those posting stuff. People need to remember that this is a TYPED format, and therefore trying to claim that something just "slipped" doesn't work. Before this posting ends up where everyone can read it, I still have to finish typing, and THEN hit "submit".
The best rule of thumb is, if we're self disciplined, we won't need to be externally disciplined.
That doesn't excuse the overly authoritarian moderators, and I haven't done much over on the KS forums since coming here (this is a much more helpful and fun group), so I missed pretty much all of what went on.
The trick is always finding a balance between effectively keeping things under control, and allowing people enough creative freedom to enjoy themselves.
We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing.
