    1st Time Breeding

I am trying to breed ball pythons for the first time. They locked up for about 26 hours and i separated them for 4 days and put them back together. They seem very disinterested in each other and have not locked up for a second time. Does this mean that the first lock was successful or that they just don't feel like breeding?

They do that from time to time. Once is potentially enough for her to be pregnant, but breeders continue to lock until the female refuses the male several times, or they know she has taken. I would keep pairing them if you don't know for sure.

Thank you! They have only been together so far for a day and a half. If they don't lock in a couple days, i will separate them and try again in a few days.

agree, keep pairing them. They should lock several more times this season. 26 hours for your first lock is solid. I think you'll be in good shape.

most people get too antsy when their snakes dont lock on the first day on introduction. theres a reason most people pair for 3 days on and 3 off. give them some time to get use to eachother. dont remove him until the 3 days has past. then give 3 days break. give him a chance to man up. if he's a first time breeder, it might take awhile. keep pairing til she ovulates is how i do it

okay, I will continue doing that. Haha I'm hoping he will get used to breeding because he is super pretty and it would be a shame for him to not get a chance to breed at least once this year, but I'm not a breeder; it's just a hobby or breeding pets
