Blood coming out of my Boa Mouth HELP!!

Hi everyone, I am really hoping that maybe someone here can help. We just notice fresh blood coming out of our Columbia Red Tails mouth. He has not eaten for a week so I do not think it could come from any food. His cage has no sharp objects. Its just really weird that he is bleeding.

His mouth otherwise looks healthy, no rot mouth. We have never seen this and are concerned. I have tried doing some searches on ths subject but no luck.

Has anyone seen this???? Is there anything I can do until i can get him to a vet?

    All help is appreciated.

    thank Denese

Look up emergency reptile vets and take him there. This sounds like it could be something really serious...can you see any cuts or any source of bleeding in the mouth?

open the mouth gently and see if any teeth are dislodged out of place. If so that could cause it.

when teeth are out of place they can puncture the gum line causing bleeding. Only way really to realign it is feed them

Re: Blood coming out of my Boa Mouth HELP!!

Well the blood is gone... very weird.. there was a ton of it before, but checking his mouth again an hour later and it is all gone. I was only able to get one good picture, he was getting very aggitated so I decided to let him be for now.

In reply to the post about the teeth, they do not look dislodged at all they look good to me, but I am not in the habit of checking his teeth very often...LOL

In this pic his mouth looks healthy... Hopefully the pic will post... always have issues with this on this site....

Hopefully i don't get in trouble for this, but the picture didn't show up. So I got it and uploaded it to post for you. I will of course remove it if you fix the link in your post. Just figured it would help others help you.

Normally, you could get the img code from the site you uploaded too. If not, you can use photobucket for free and they provide you with code you need to display images properly. There is a sticky on posting pictures as well =)

Anyways, here is the picture that 'Denese' tried posting. It belongs to 'Denese', I'm just assisting with the posting.

Re: Blood coming out of my Boa Mouth HELP!!

I do see what looks like a little red spot on his lower lip on the right side of the pic. It's possible that he yawned and caught his lip when he closed his mouth. Keep an eye on him and check for any bloody feces or urates, which would definitely indicate an internal problem. Maybe check around his vent for any dried blood...
