    Goodbye my love...

I just came back from the vet... My cat was put to sleep. Got a call at work from my mom that my gf found her laying on the lawn, barely breathing. When I got there, the doc said nothing could be done. I had her for almost twenty years. Most of my life. I can't believe she's gone. That cat was everything to me. I don't even know how I feel right now. Holding her in my arms, as she slipped away, and gave me one last purr, and my hand a final lick, was the most excruciatingly painful thing I've ever gone through in my life. I'm really not okay right now. I miss her so much already. Don't know that I've ever felt pain like this. I think I'm going to get very, very, drunk.

That totally blows, I can't imagine what you're feeling right now. Just don't drink yourself to death, you'll still be in pain and very hungover in the morning. I'm not telling you not to drink, but only time can take the pain away.

    Re: Goodbye my love...

The pain of losing a pet like that is something you can't explain unless you've been there. I lost my kitty two years ago and while it still makes me sad, it does make me happy now to remember the times I had with him. The pain does get better, it just takes some time.. and eventually you'll be able to look back fondly on those 20 years. <3

My most sincere sympathies. I know this is difficult, at least you got to say goodbye.

I have an idea of what you're feeling right now. In september we had to put down our dog Tucker. It was very unexpected. He had a toumer and we didn't even know he was sick untill a couple hours before he passed on. The last moments you described with your cat are pretty much identical to mine with Tucker. He was 10 years old. Way too short of a life of such a special doggie. Tho it was three months ago, I still feel pain every time I come home and he's not there to greet me, or when I look at his empty food bowl and bed I'm just not ready to put away yet. One thing that really helped me feel better was buying some picture frames and hanging my favorite pictures of him around the house. It makes me happy to look at them and remember all the good times we shared. I'm sure your cat loved you dearly, and will always be with you in spirit.

    I love my pets.

Thank you everyone. Your thoughts and well wishes mean a lot. I've been in a complete daze for these last couple of days. Still can't believe she's really gone. I've always loved cats, but she was unique. The sweetest, most loving, and intelligent animal I've ever had. I got her when I was nine years old... She's been there with me through hell and back. Through all the struggles in my life. Through all the heartbreaks. Through other losses. No matter how bad things were, I knew that I would come home, and she would be there. She always was. She always knew when I was sad... Would come find me and lay next to me. Put her paws around my face and snuggle up to me, and just be there. I come home now, and expect her to jump off the couch and come meet. Then I remember that she is gone. I've lost friends and family. But nothing has ever hit me this hard. I don't think that I've ever felt such heartache and emptiness. I just dearly hope that she is at peace, in a better place. And that she will always know my love for her.

I don't know how you feel about tattoos, but when my dog died (I had her for 17 years) I got her name tattooed on my arm. I may not have her body to snuggle, but I have her with me, all the time. It gives me something to look at and know that she loved me so unconditionally that she meant enough to me to get a tattoo.

It helped me accept it, but it also helps when people ask what it says, you can tell everybody what she stood for, pure and undying love, unconditional and eternal love. I tell people that every time, I never would have made it out of childhood the way I am if it hadn't been for that dog, and I would never trade her for anything.
