Switching Ball Pythons from ASF's to Rats (Myth buster)

Ok I thought I would post this here for those of you that have any doubt about switching ball pythons over to rats after they have been raised on ASF's. In all my cases they have switched over without any problems. sometimes it takes a little more patience than other times but eventually they all switch over. This is a link to a video I made for an individual that purchased my Snow ball and wanted to see if she would take rat pups. Here ya go.

The snow has taken rat pups every time I offer. There's no doubt that she was 100% willing to switch.

I seen your other thread of her where you talked about breeding her to your clown. That sounds like a very long but awesome project! I'm glad she is already adjusted to her new home. I just thought some other people might benifit from seeing this video after I made it for you. Take good care of her

I've got a couple I need you to switch over for me.

Not all ball pythons switch... most, but not all.

It's depndant completely on the snake. Not the feed. The type of rodent has nothing to do with it.

If the snake is picky, it's picky, ASFs rats and mice have nothing to do with it.

X2 Most will switch, some will not.
I've had several that wouldn't give a rat or mouse the time of day, and they are still that way with someone else who claimed they could switch any snake...

I've got a ball that will only eat gerbils, period. I can put a gerbil and a rat in, he may grab the rat, but won't eat it.
I've got a huge female mojave that will only eat ASF.
It's not for lack of trying, trust me...
It's not just a problem with a particular type of rodent, this topic has been debated to death.
Still some will say they will switch over with no problem at all. Like I said, most of the time they will switch, but not always...
I never start my baby balls on ASF, ever. It's not worth the risk to me(be it a small risk) to have a snake that I can't get switched over. Brings the value down when you try to sell... Most of the time, I try to start my balls on rats, right from the start.

Re: Switching Ball Pythons from ASF's to Rats (Myth buster)

Ok, there are picky eaters that might only eat once every one or two months, and they dont prefer any kind of food they are just picky.

When I switched over my adult ball pythons from asf's to rats I had several that did not eat for 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 months. But they eventually all ate the rats. My Male Fire actually went 10 months without eating when I was switching them to rats. He actually had me worried, until one day he just had a brain fart and decided that he would rather eat rats than die. Patience is all it took on my end. Now when I switched them back over to asf's there was no waiting they took them right away. It is not always easy to switch them, but every one that I have ever produced has switched. Hopefully I will never meet one that wont switch, but if I do I will post a retraction, lol.
