How often do you clean your Dubia setup?

I have read from a few different sources that you don't want to over clean a Dubia roach colony setup. The sources state that they like and prefer (especially nymphs) to hide in their mess. I have now had my setup going for a little over two months. I'm just wondering how often and thoroughly to clean their setup.

on a new setup you can wait longer. Also, newborn nymphs feed on the frass. i do it only every couple of months or so. Make sure you freeze the frass so you don't toss away live nymphs.

If you have mold, mildew or an overly wet medium you would want to change right away.

Does "I can't even remember" count as an answer? It has been over 6 months for me and I don't see a reason to clean it for another 6 months. My roaches are in one of the solid Tupperware/Sterilite bins probably about 20 gallons. When I feed, I tilt the frass to the back and add food on the clean floor. Definitely over 500 roaches of all sizes in the bin.

I too have heard the nymphs eat the frass. But they don't have any smell and they definitely aren't bothered by the pieces because it is dry.

Twice a year, once in fall and again in spring.

    Sounds easy enough.

Extremely infrequently. Mostly what I did when I had dubias was change out some of my egg carton liners. When I made the executive decision that there was "too much poop", I did one cleaning where I removed about 90% of the poop and then removed the small number of dead adults that I found. It was kinda cool to filter through and find what seemed like BILLIONS of nymphs that like to hide.

I hope I start to see those billions soon. I can tell they are really starting to take off but I try hard to rarely disturb them. I really want a solid colony before even feeding off a few, almost there.
