I second the suggestion to feed at night. While I can get my coastal to eat during the day with some coaxing, it really is more of a challenge. Soon as her lights go out she goes looking for food. I also have an easier time feeding her if iscruff the rat (rather than held from the tail) and have it tickle the back third of her body or her tail. She gets annoyed and curious and will come eat it. If I put it near her face, she gets shy and will try to get away from it. Good luck!
