How cool are Carpets ?

Wow thanks for all the input guys ! I'v done quit a bit of research, rrad the caresheets and all, but I really wanted first hand opinions about what Carpets are like, because they've always fascinated me ! Just a last question since evryone has been so helpeful, what kind of caging do you guys use for your Carpets ? Once again, I've seen all the care sheets, but I really want to see what individuals are using.

with carpets i would say something that is in line with the care sheets and personally (and this is more of a preference) i say stuff for them to climb on a little since they are semi arboreal.

I guess I was lucky with having only 2 out of 10 carpets that wanted to eat my face. If you get one thats a lil testy just keep working with em and its demon mode shouldn't last too long.

Right now I have my Bredli in a 16x16x24" Atasuki enclosure. (Like Exo-Terras but better.) I plan on keeping her there for maybe another year, depending on how quickly she grows. So I will say they'll be good in that size for up to 2 years old.

I use Paper substrate and have a few logs, a water dish, and bamboo perches. I have a UVB light on her as well as a Heat Bulb for daytime (set to 88) and a Heat Mat for nighttime (set to 92) controlled by a thermostat.

I plan on upgrading her to a 4x2x2' enclosure. If I find she still enjoys climbing I will then upgrade to a 4x2x4' or larger.

Carpet Pythons are awesome. I have a 50% Jungle, 25% Coastal, 25% Irian Jaya cross. He's only about a couple months old and around 30" and growing fast. I lucked out and got to skip out on the whole nippy phase. Hes more docile then any other snake I've had. I enjoy seeing how active these snakes are and their feeding response is on a whole other level.

Carpet pythons are AWESOME! By far they are my favorite species, and their "only" downside (in my eyes) is that they are a shade too small for my preference.

Pros:

1) very handleable and calm as adults
2) great feeders (make sure to start them on rats, don't want an 8lb snake preferring 20g mice)
3) great size, very manageable size but can still be an impressive snake
4) beautiful
5) countless breeding projects one might want to undertake
6) hardy and easy to care for
7) intelligent and aware

Cons:

1) New stock straight from Australia is virtually impossible to acquire

http://www.animalplastics.com/ click on specialty cages an you will see the carpet cages which are great for some carpet of course for larger carpest you will want a cage that is 4 feet long and not 3.

Hatchling, juvies and sub adult can easily be kept in tubs until ready to be transferred in their permanent enclosure.

For hatchlings, I like small tubs in commercially available rack systems.

For young juveniles, I've used 20G long glass aquariums, large (32-41 quart) tubs in commercially available rack systems, and 2 foot tall exo-terra glass vivariums. They've all worked great. For the glass cages, I've used ceramic heat emitters for heating. On my racks, I use flexwatt.

Right now I use Animal Plastics 4x2x2 caging for my largest carpet python. I'm thinking of selling that one however, and purchasing a stack of 4 foot long cages from http://www.constrictorsnw.com/cagess...prostacks.html and using pro heat radiant heat panels to heat them.

Carpets have easy husbandry but take a chunk of time to get to calm down. Carpets are my favorite kind of snakes nowadays
