So many questions on genetics!! (boa genetics)

    Hello again,

I know this is the bp forum, but I also know that there are quite a few boa ppl on here as well, and have all my questions answered in the past, so here it goes.

So I have three female boas, a normal, and two red-pastel hypos. I also have a red-pastel hypo male, and a brand new anery dh snow (het albino)

All of the red-pastel hypos (two females one male) are also 50% het albino, anery and stripe. So here is where my confusion sets in.

If I breed my anery het albino (dh snow) to one of my hypos (or both) and one turns out to be het albino will I possibly make moonglows (hypo anery albino)? Or does one need to be both het albino and het anery, or is it even possible?!?!?!

Also do I have the chance of making ghosts? Or is that impossible since my anery doesnt have hypo in him. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I am really lost here and any help would be soooooo greatly appreciated!!!

I have about 1 million more questions but I don't want to over-stay my welcome!

    Thanks!

You can POSSIBLY make ghosts with either hypo female. Ghosts are anery and hypo. Anery is recessive and hypo is dominant which means only 1 parent needs to be hypo but both need to be or carry the anery gene. The way I'm reading your comments, it sounds like your hypo females are 50% possible het for anery. If you bred your anery male to them and made ghosts, you'd prove out the mother and she would then be 100% het anery.

You do have a chance of making moonglows, but the percentage is less than it is for the ghosts. In this case, the female would have to carry both the anery and the albino gene and pass it along to her young. If you get a white baby, again, you've proved her in both the anery and the albino gene. In this case, both parents must carry both the anery and the albino genes as both traits are recessive.

50% hets are not great odds, but worth a try. One thing you'd definitely produce would be hypos dh ghost (100% anery) because the father, being anery himself, would pass that gene to his offspring. Hope this helps! It was a mystery for me too for awhile! But ask away - we don't mind!
