Let me introduce you to Chance.

We own a tree service down here in Florida and while removing a dead Oak tree yesterday we found this guy laying in the debri after the tree hit the ground. I have done research, what I could find on line, on how to properly care for it. We have decided to name it Chance since he has a second chance on life. Anyway without further delay, here is Chance, a southern flying squirrel.

    Cute SFS.

I have a female that I rescued about 3 years back. Such interesting critters. Once you get it rehabilitated and strong it will be very active.

But mine fell out of a tree as a baby and luckly at the time I walked around the house and caught my cat playing with it on the ground. No major damage to it looks to be about the same size mine was.

But just let you know ahead of time... they will use you as a tree. Let it climb you, good bonding for it. Also your window curtains are not safe. . But its so funny to watch them. They will climb the curtains jump and glide. Ive got a pretty good size living room and mine can glide just about the width of the living room. Have fun.

Oh yeah that size should be able to tell the sex by now. Its just like a male rat, it will have a pecan hanging in between the legs. If nothing then its a female.

Well, here it is, 12:26 in the morning and just got done feeding, it ate .7 ml this time. I have only had him for 36 hrs now and already he has been a complete joy. Never thought I would once again say getting up in the middle of the night to feed something so tiny and wriggly to be a joy. But it really is. I'll post another upate later on in the day. BrianD, thanks for your inputs. Please give me any more advice that you may have. I've already made a pouch for it to hang around my neck.

So, how is your SFS with the cats now, we have 2 cats. I'll have to build him a cage and only let him out to play when the cats are out on the screen lenai. We also have the 2 dogs, but I don't think they will be a problem. Have you found yours to be destructive to your house?

He's cute, adult male squirrels are known for catrating males in litters, which can make sexing difficult also.

    He/she is adorable

First off a big NO NO dont let it loose when the cats are inside. SFS are Too Damn fast and I dont wanna risk saying yes. Also dogs have predator instincts thier selves... something small and fast is something to play with. Its a disaster waiting to happen. Also when you have it out and about in your house... Keep the Toliet Sits Closed. Ive had it happen.... but you get the idea. She didnt drown but my hand was wet.

If you build a cage it needs to be a min of 2*2*4(l*w*h) in feet. You can also check martains cages do a google search. I have one for specific for the SFS. Also they eat the following.... seed, nuts, veggies, insects.

I know this may be against the rules but dealing with totally different animals from snakes and rats. But check out...

Also let me figure out why my USB flash drive is not working and I will eventually upload some pics of my SFS.
