Clarkesville, GA, attempt to ban reptile business within city limits

It's nice to see a government body acting on facts rather than fears. If it had been my article, the title might have read, "Nosey, lying neighbor attempts to shut down local businessman". But, that's just me. The link is below, but the jist is that a lady tried to get the Clarkesville City Council to outlaw commercial reptile sales within city limits because the house across the street smelled like rodents and she was fraid something would escape its cage. Two council members visited the house and found excellent conditions, no smell, and good cage security. It isn't over yet, but my fingers are crossed...

That actually hits close to home a little bit. I'm a UGA grad and I would have liked to believe my professors would have done a little research before acting so ignorant.

Agreed - thanks for posting. Just as she should have tempered her stupid and uninformed actions - we should never do the the same. Not only would that hurt the community -but it is also a CRIME.

Educated doesn't mean free from being ignorant. Some of the most ignorant people I know are book smart. They have no real life smarts and usually lack all common sense. There are both sides of that coin but I see a pretty distinct corellation

Reading the story it seems the city council was actually the voice of reason.

"[Councilmembers] Kemp and Kesler visited Alexander's home and could not smell an odor from outside. At the meeting, Kesler offered to return to the neighborhood if the smell became evident.

Kesler said the rodent enclosure had a sawdust smell, but there was no other odor and the enclosure seemed pristine and secure.

"It was very clean. There were no droppings. Obviously, none of the animals could escape. So at the day that we went and the time that we went I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary or extraordinary at all."

It's all being driven by the one lady - not the council...
