They are escape artists, have no holes not even an eraser sized one You probably already know that though

X20000 here!! These bad boys are amazing at escaping, just try catching one in the rocks to eat or use for bait...but that's a different story!!

They are quite cool, and super intelligent!! I don't know anything about keeping them as pets, but they're awesome animals!!!

i know nothing to offer as information but i will add that they are awesome. nice that your taking the proper steps to take good care instead of jumping in.
salt waters are nice and also like you said expensive. i have yet to start one and wish to learn but$$$$$$$$$$$$ needs to go in other directions right now.
    good luck on your journey

go to www.marineaquariumsa.com, those guys are very helpful, and there are literally tons of information about running a saltwater tank. They are a lot of work, especially in the beginning but have a look there and start reading!

Did you watch the TV Show on the science channel about them? They were doing several test on the intelligence of the octopus. It was so cool, made me want to get one. But yeah I can see the escaping as being a big problem.
