How Much Cage Space Would a 7.5ft Red Tail Need?

I most likely will be recieving a 7.5ft red tail pretty soon. A friend of one of our friends needs to rehome it, and was wondering if I am interested. Of course...I am. I have multiple books on caring for this species, and they said that an adult red tail boa needs a cage that is 6ftLx 2ftWx2ftT.

Keep in mind that this will be my first boa. And I think I am more than capable of handling it..besides I have been planning on getting one for quite some time.

This cage arangement should be enough no?

Yup, 6 x 2 x 2 is the smallest I would go for a boa that size. If you can do something bigger (not a ton bigger, but maybe a little) it would be even better, but that cage size should be just fine. Was is a male or female boa?

I feel that 4x2 is the minimum for a 7.5ft boa and would probably work well, though I certainly would go with the 6x2 if you can. A 4x2 wouldn't be a great choice if it gets much bigger though, which they certainly can do! Might as well get a big cage and let it have some room to stretch.

I agree with MB. A good general guideline is a minimum of 1 square foot of floor space per 1 foot of length. I would also suggest the 6 X 2, since the snake is already almost at the limit for a 4 X 2.

6x2x2 would be great.
If I would change a size on it, I would make it taller. They like to climb! With the taller size I would provide UTH and a radient heat panel on the warm side. 2 separate thermostats.

If you make it bigger from front to back, it can be a pain to clean. Of course, my arms aren't very long. I'm only 5'6". LOL

Yeah it's a female. I'm getting her next weekend on friday or saturday. Can't wait! So excited!

I use 4x2x1 cages for my adult Colombian boas. Females normally get around 6 - 8 feet long.

I've got my 6' ish females in 6'x30"x18" AP T25's and those cages make my girls look small so honestly for a 7.5' footer I wouldn't go less then a 6' long, then that way she's got room to stretch and do a little growing

I've decided to go with a cage that is 7ftLx3ftTx3ftW. This way if she grows bigger (which she most likely will) she will have room to grow. Plus, with this arrangement, she will never need a new cage again.
