this site has some really good info on the mainstream chemicals most people use. It says how they work, and gives you tips for using them safely.
I like to use bleach in a 1:10 parts solution with water. I like to use paper towels and then rinse with a hose outside. When I say rinse, I mean I make it rain. I then dry, and rinse again for shootz n googles. Also, clean anything in the cage too, and change substrate.

I use diluted Chlorhexidine for cleaning.

I use a combination of Chlorohexidine and steam cleaning, on glass after I am done I just use a rubber squeegee. Vinegar is also not a bad cleaner but the dilution needs to be quite short 1:1 for disinfecting and then it needs to be washed so no smell remains, same for bleach soln's rinse until no smell remains. Remember very few (no? ) disinfectants work on contact all need some time usually they say 20 min. Every cleaner has its own quirks, a little reading is required before you use it.

I've used vinegar for years on everything, from windows to rats, and now I use it on my tanks and tubs. It isn't toxic at all and the smell will go away very quickly.
They do make reptile disinfectant, I don't know what it's called, but they sell it at the pet store, supposed to be safe for use on any kind of reptile viv...I think it's green for some reason. Bleach also works but is just to dangerous for my comfort zone, I'll use it if someone has died, or has been ill...but I just find that level of disinfecting unnecessary for a regular cleaning.
