So I stayed up with my 9 year old ferret Smokey last night. He passed away early this morning. We all knew it was coming because he was one old man, but it is soo incredibly hard to watch a playful, fun, energetic little man become incapacitated and slowly slip away. I started with 3 males that were 2-3 years old, we got them from a friend that didn't want to deal with the potential health problems. Casper last year passed at 10 years old, he died very suddenly in his sleep, That was very surprising to me. And this year it was smokeys turn. He had been having off and on issues for the past six months. But mainly the past month was quite hard. At his checkup we were told that the only thing we could do was make him comfortable. At the end he couldn't walk, or get up, and was going potty on himself. This morning I was going to call the vet to euthanize bc it just looked to me like he was suffering, but he went on his own and I'm happy I got the chance to be with him. So it's 11 am and this (shot o vodka) is to Smokey.
You were my main man and you'll be sorely missed. Rip buddy.
