    ...Skye

My grandmother's miniature italian greyhound had to be put down last week.
She and Skye had been together for around 10 years.
My grandmother was admitted to the hospital several months ago for some serious health issues, and while gone, Skye freaked. She thought she had been abandoned. Her ongoing teeth issues got worse and her stomach got very upset because she tore up the house and ate stuff she could get to.
Most of her teeth had been extracted already.
Anyway, when my grandmother came back from the hospital, Skye was a mess. For months she worked with a vet to get her well, but still her tummy was upset, her teeth were ruined, and she was just getting sicker.
she made the decision to let her go. The vet came to her apartment from an hour away to do it.
Skye, you will be missed. Baba loved you, and always will. She's a mess without you, and it wasn't easy deciding to let you go. We hope it was better for you. We didn't want you to hurt...even though letting you go hurts almost as much, nobody can bear to think of you in pain.
My grandmother is not doing well after this. She's on anti anxiety medicine and sleep aids. She's a wreck, and we are heartbroken for her.
Skye will hopefully be cremated in the upcoming days.
    Goodbye, beautiful Skye.

Also, my grandmother traveled the world with this dog. They went to England, Louisiana, Montana, Washington DC, Washington state--everywhere. It wasn't just a dog. It was her friend.

    Oh, no, I'm so sorry.

They say having a pet is good for your health. But they never talk about how awful losing one is.

Thanks guys. It still stings, but we're learning to live with the hurt.
She was a beautiful dog, and my grandmother is still very depressed over it.
The good news is that right after Skye passed, my cousin who lives right next door to my grandmother with her mother and my aunt (so Baba's two daughters and grand daughter. Her grand daughter = my cousin)...ok in case you got lost, my cousin who lives right next door to my grandmother found out she was pregnant shortly after skye passed. So now my grandmother isn't so lonely and has something to look forward to, but nothing will fill the void...though we all hope the good timing might help.

I'm very sorry to hear this. At least your grandmother has something to look forward to now. Losing a pet is like losing a family member.
