Your thoughts are probably right, but if you don't mind him being a bit dirty, he's perfectly fine. Some people prefer dirty bees, some prefer clean. I don't think he is too bad. I've definitely seen a lot worse!

Looks pretty good from where here. I was looking into buying one of these before I got Herbert. Yours doesn't seem to have too much brown. How much brown do they usually get with age?
The glass is neither half-full nor half-empty: it's twice as big as it needs to be.

As i said im no expert with bees, but i saw one in particular on jkbolka reptiles youtube channel that was crazy brown, didnt much look like a bee anymore.
What im trying to find out from this post is, does he have alot of brown for a youngen. And therefore will he brown out alot as he grows.
I am a fan of yellow snakes so i would prefer to keep him that way as long as possible.
Thanks for your input, is that herbet in your avatar?

Looks pretty nice to me. I like his high white sides! IMO the pic looks kind of dark, so it's hard to gauge the snakes true color. Maybe ask for another pic?

Re: To bee or not to bee?
I dont think he'll brown out badly in time. I love his patterns, specially on his head. Ask pictures of the parents, at least it will give you an idea on how the parents turned out to be as adults. I love bees when they become adults, having 3 layers of color tones, golden brown on top, yellow in the middle, then white at the bottom. So I say, to bee!
